Very strange.. Bought some films from the USA (to UK), something I've done a
few times before. One of them seems to not physically fit, yet I can't by
eye see a physical defect that prevents entry, and the front shutter opens
as expected when the side latch is pressed.

I've worked round the problem by doing a tape-transplant into another case,
at which point it worked fine - just wondered if anyone had seen this
before?

Geoff.

It is possible that the cassette shell assembly may have been deformed in the
middle as opposed to the outer edges. - Reinhart

what you describe is very unusual - the VHS cassette system has
identical dimensions *everywhere*. Inspect the casssette a bit more
and compare carefully with a good one-I would guess you would find
something amiss eventually!

I suspect that at some point during the trip, the cassette got
squashed a bit and bulged. Or maybe heat damage?

If you were to stand the cassette on its end (i.e.leaving the spine
visible) and apply pressure from the top, I suspect you'd get the same
result.

Come to think about it, I had a cassette one VCR would not take in.
turned out the cassette body was chipped just at the front right
corner under the shutter flap. This corner usually pushed a latching
lever on the cassette basket allowing it to be drawn in.

B.

A few years ago I had a similar problem with a 5 pack of new tapes. None of
them would fit into a VCR. I think there were made in Bangladesh or some
other 3rd world country.

yes I had that problem a few times ago. It was not caused by heat or the tape
casing being deformed whatsoever! It was because the case itself was
manufactured a few millimeters larger than normal!!!!

As everything needs to be standard the tape would not fit in the VCR at all. The
tape was a generic one and made in China. I have seen many tapes made in
countries that have poor record on quality not as per the standard
specifications.

To avoid these problem just stick to the premium brand names and would be 100%
fine.
