VCR Noisless Operation |
|
|
Can some kind person recommend me a VCR that operates noiselessly? My
main uses will be to record a program on a channel other than the one
I'm watching and to record programs while I sleep in the same room as
the TV. I don't want to be woken up by whirring and clicking of the
VCR. Thanks for the help.

There are no noiseless VCRs. All mechanical devices make
noise when operating. You might think that a DVR with a fixed disk
may be noiseless, but people who own them complain about
noise when the DVR is installed in a bedroom.
You might consider sound reducing earplugs. |

Well, I still consider my Panasonic (SuperDrive or whatever it's
called, bought in 1993) noiseless.
Don't know what pansonic VCRs are nowadays though. |

Thanks for the input, Jack Ak. I supected this might be the case. It's
always amazed me how little attention reviewers of modern equipment
pay to their noise levels. They never seem to imagine that there are
people who will have to sleep close to the equipment, or who just
plain don't like unnecessary noise.

Yeah, many newer machines with their ultralight chassis make great
resonators for the transport grindings...
One could build or buy a soundproof enclosure/cabinet (allow for
ventilation though!), or wiring to a remote location out of earshot.
8mm decks I've used were comparatively quiet, but fragile. DVR/PVRs
are also fairly quiet, however a continuous low noise from the HDD and
cooling fan replaces the periodic VCR thrashing through start/stop.
Always tradeoffs...
