A little advice please: which software would you recommend?
I produced my first slideshow using Ulead DVD MovieFactory 3 but
wonder if there is a better / more specific software.
Tks.

I like proshow gold also. It allows you to have animated text which really
adds a flair to your slideshow. I haven't found another that does so many
things and I have tested quite a few.

Well there is Ulead Picture show which is specific for making slide shows. |
I bought it and had trouble with Customer support, so I reconmend this
product with the following caveate. The issue are you can't register the
program and it keeps saying quicktime is not installed (but it is) There is
no way to email CS since you can't register the program and can't email
customer suport until program is registered. I could call them in the UK on
my dime but I just live with it. Other than that annoying QT glitch it does
work very well. |

Many thanks for your comments. Would anyone have used both ProShow
gold and Ulead PictureShow? And comment on results with both?
I checked their sites for info and was amazed by the size difference
between both programs: Ulead 114 MB and ProShow only 10,4 MB.
Meanwhile I came accross another program that seems quite good:
Photo2DVD Studio 3. This program is only 13,3 MB.
So it seems that 10 - 15 MB is the standard for this kind of products.
But Ulead PictureShow is much, much bigger. I am puzzled.

I haven't used Ulead, but am completely sold on Proshow Gold, especially in
comparison with NeroVision. The latter can only accept 100 slides per show
(though you can have multiple shows on a single menu), and adding captions
to many slides is a nasty chore because the default font is too large, and
must be reset to your choice on every single slide.
ProShow avoids the above problems... I made a test DVD show with 300+
slides with no problem. Video quality was impressive. Also, Proshow can
burn a slideshow (with music) to an .exe file that will easily fit on cd
for display on any pc... even those without a DVD drive. ProShow has many
features other similar programs lack... it pays to experiment with it so
when you finally produce your "great" slideshow you'll have mastered all
the tricks. I'm convinced nothing beats ProShow in features,
functionality, and ease of use.

If ProShowGold seems easier to use than Ulead PictureShow, the results |
are not the same.
In particular, the sharpness of the picture are not so good with
ProShowGold.
For final use as video (included in DVD with movies), the result given
by Ulead PictureShow is many times better. |

I recommend proshow gold. I make dvds. The quality is only as good as the
pictures you get but I have not had a problem. I have done several with
proshow gold for schools and groups. It is easy to learn and does
everything that makes an excellent slideshow.

I have Photo2DVD Studio 3 and I'm a bit "technically challenged" but I've
made slideshows that have impressed viewers by the professionalism of the
finished product (my music choices, aside).

Re: Slideshow in DVD |

I've downloaded trial versions of Ulead Picture Show and ProShow Gold.
It appears that Ulead will not permit JPEG images and AVI movies to
reside on the same continuous show - movies appear in separate menus
on the DVD. Someone please set me straight if I am wrong.
ProShow permits combination of JPEG and AVI onto the same slideshow,
and seems to offer better control over the soundtrack background. The
soundtrack UI is a bit clunkly, though. Image quality is slightly
degraded, but is far better than anything produced by Roxio
Based on my experience with the trial versions, ProShow seems to offer
the better package. I could be sold on Ulead if I knew it would
produce a combined JPEG/AVI slideshow.
Quite frankly, the lack of quality software choices is very
disappointing. All I have been looking for is a package that creates
a image/movie slideshow with quality image properties, decent control
over the sound background, and produces a true DVD format (not
VCD!!!).
I don't see why this this is hard to do.
