I have a fairly new Sony VCR (bought last Jan), and it was working
fine until this week. I have my TV and VCR both on and the TV on
channel 3 so it gets its signal from the VCR. When I set the VCR to
select channels 7 or 9 (local to Wash, DC area), I get a picture but
no audio. When I tape a program from either channel the same thing:
no audio. Actually, two days ago while taping Nightline, I got the
video just fine, but the audio was a Spanish language program! All
other channels work okay.

When I turn off the VCR and tune the TV to channel 7 or 9, both audio
and video are fine.

So, the problem seems to be the tuner inthe VCR, not the TV. Is that
a good conclusion? But why, oh why, would it affect just two
channels, and just the audio? Or is there some other reason?

This just started behaving this way this past Monday (Sep 27); the
last time I recorded either channel was Fri, Sep 24.

Any ideas? Being so new, I'd hate to just toss it. tia

Sounds like a SAP issue to me. Check your manual for instructions of
how to turn OFF your SAP.

Thanks for the tip, you were right. I must've hit the Audio button
instead of Reply some time last week, and for some reason only channel
7 was affected. Anyway, it's back to normal now.

Also, I'm kicking myself, because those Nightline editions that I thought
were hosed (and I overwrote) most likely were recorded fine, just that
the audio wasn't going to my speakers.

Live 'n' learn.
