Hello,

This has been bugging me for a while, so I figured I'd ask someone here.
I'm getting pretty annoyed with differing volume levels in various
files/formats. I've heard of and use replaygain in my mp3 files, but
this seems to apply more generally to the machine.

For example:
I set my Windows volume control so that dings and beeps etc... all come
out at a nice volume (my speakers are set to 50% volume, wave/mp3 to
100%, and main volume to 50%). Then, when I play an mp3 file or go to
some flash site, the sound from that comes blasting out my speakers, way
too loud. I lower the wave/mp3 volume in the Windows control to about
10%, but then I can't really hear my Windows beeps over the music.

I can handle various changes in volume in different mp3 files. I'm more
curious about the overall volume setting. Which one is right? Are the
Windows effects recorded at a too low volume?
