"Save to VCR" |
|
|
I have an older Philips DSR 6000 rcvr and was wondering....
If I want to take one of the recorded programs in "now playing", and save to
VCR, can I do this and watch live TV at the same time?
Thanks.

The DTiVos only have one decoder (which is the hardware & software that take
the signal or stored program and output it in a viewable form). The decoder
can only output a single stream so it is an either/or situations: live TV or
recorded program.

You can, as long as you don't watch live through the TiVo. Bryan mentioned
that your TiVo is a DirecTiVo (you didn't...), so it would be more
complicated than a standalone TiVo with analog cable, but it's possible. I
guess you'd need another DirecTV receiver and another run from the
satellite...

Mea culpas if I gave incorrect info and thanks for the clarification. I |
thought I remembered his receiver as a Series 1 DirecTiVo.

The O.P. said "older Philips DSR 6000", so you are correct, it is a
DirecTiVo. |

No, I think you're right, I was just pointing out the fact that the OP
didn't specify. I meant it as a gentle barb for making me look anywhere
other than his post for information I needed to answer his question, but
in reality giving the model # was more than enough, so I was in the wrong
for making even a gentle barb.

Uh, no, one of the big selling features of DTIVO is the dual inputs, i.e.
two tuners, not only can you record one program while you watch something
you've already recorded, you can actually record two channels while you
watch recorded content.

Somebody forgot to read today! :)
This question has nothing to do with discrete inputs and everything to do
with discrete outputs. Bryan hit the nail right on the head.

Dual inputs are irrelevant when we're talking about outputs.
DTIVO can only output a single video signal. Either it is
showing a live TV or it is showing a previously recorded program. Period.
