I've got the new HD Tivo (it's amazing) and I wanted to get a DVD
recorder to archive some of the recordings. First, what recorder
would you guys recommend. Second, and I know this must be obvious,
but how would I burn a movie that is currently on the HD? I realize
how to record directly to the recorder but how about a file that is
already on the drive?

Thanks in advance,

You would use the save to VCR option and the DVD recorder would be connected
to the second output.

Wow you can do that with the HDDirecTiVo??
If so that's interesting...

I'm in the process of building a new home theater after
Hurricane Ivan and I'm going with the HD DirectTiVo,
Plasma or LCD, Denon 3805, Denon DVD Player &
B&W 600series (603s, 601s, ASW 675) Speaker setup....

Yes, but you have to set the HD TiVo to 480i format.

Programs in SD will be sent to the VCR/recorder as is.
Programs in HD will become tall and skinny when converted to 480i.
These widescreen programs can recorded in anamorphic form to an ordinary
VCR or DVD recorder. When playing back this anamorphic video, you'll have
to set the aspect ratio on your TV to stretch the 4:3 video out to 16:9.

It won't be high definition but it will be widescreen.

Yes, you can dump ordinary video to a VCR or to a DVD.
The 480i output from the HD TiVo is not subject to content protection.

Yes. Just use a standalone DVD burner, the type with video inputs. They
act essentially like VCRs.
