Version 5 coming soon? |
|
|
I was looking up an issue on the TIVO knowledge base and they gave
instructions on how to perform the actions in versions 3, 4 and 5.

I guess we're about due for a semi-annual upgrade but has anyone had
any word on this?

Version 5 has been around since the Pioneer units shipped. I believe all
of the DVD recorder models (and probably the DVD player models, too) have
some variant of version 5.
That doesn't mean existing units will get upgraded to 5.x software any
time soon. Series 1 units are still on 3.x, as are all non-hacked DirecTV
units.

Version 5.x premiered on the Toshiba DVD and Pioneer DVD-RW boxes -
5.1 and 5.2, respectively. The newer, silver Series2 standalone units
run 5.3, and the new Humax and Toshiba DVD-RW units run 5.4.
The earlier Series2 units will probably receive an upgrade at some
point.

The "first generation" DirecTV DVRs are also being updated as needed.
The current software version is 3.1.0.c2..., released in August 2004. |
