Hi,
I am thinking about buying the standard Mac Mini as an under the TV
computer.

Before anyone decides to start ranting about Macs, I happen to like OS X,
and I happen to think that the Mac Mini is an incredible looking piece of
kit :)

Anyway, would the G4 1.25GHz with 256mb be enough to play back DivX?

Thanks,
MJ

Many modern 65 $ DVD players can play DivX.

So...
And I would not at ALL be surprized if Apple had to take back all minimacs
because 87 Watt at 30 environment (as it is sometimes here), will for a
case temperature of 70 Celcius (some plastics start melting) require a thermal
resistance of (70 - 30) / 87 = 0.45 degrees C / Watt, and if the thing
sits on a isolated surface, only the sides and top contribute to that,
and it does not anywhere like that big heatsing on my audio amp.
But Mr Job's technicians HAVE measured that have they not?
Just, if you MUST buy a PC, get a real one, Athklon 64 400mHz DDR, dula layer
16 x burner, and cheaper too.
Lifetime expectancy of diskdrive and DVD drive and rest of the electronics
decreases as temp increases....
Stay clear of it!

I won't argue with your temps' well not where you are, but it is rarely, and
I do mean rarley as in once in a blue moon, 30degrees C here in Ireland. As
for getting a real PC which I run a drafting business off.

The Mac, as I have sated is purely for use as an entertainment unit. I
currently have a G3 Powermac with Os X on it and I happen to like the
simplicity of it compared to XP. I also have not seen any PC case that looks
anywhere near as good as the Mac Mini case but then maybe I have not seen
them all.

As for Any modern $65 dvd player playing DivX, yeap, thats true, but then I
don't just want it for playing DivX, as I said, I want it as an entertainemt
unit, an under the TV PC, one that will allow me to stream from the net as I
already do using a crap looking Celeron 700 (www.sky.com they have streaming
of the Premiership soccer).

Thanks anyway,
MJ
