Copying files for conversion...errors |
|
|
Hey all,
I have two pc's on a typical cat5 network with 10/100 cards. Its quite
sound and performs well under XP Pro (on both). I sometimes copy from a dvd
and may want to actually convert it on the other pc. They both are capable
homebuilt machines that can handle the task. The two forms of ripping in
question are intended to be either Xvid or a DVD copy, depending on the
movie usually.
I use Smartripper (included in my NeoDivx) to rip for the Xvid, and
DVDShrink for the DVD copies. Quite easy so far. But, If I send an
otherwise perfect copy in its file (New File for examples sake) over the
network and try to encode it on the other machine, I can somtimes run into
errors. Most of the sort saying I am missing the .ifo files or .bup files.
This goes both ways with both machines. It appears to be a random event as
I can try to rip and repeat and it will sometimes work after sending it over
the network. It will always work if I encode on the same machine that it
was ripped on.
I just wonder why I lose the ability to work with my rips sometimes if I
transfer the rip over a network?
Just to note, sometimes I get errors on a machine when doing xvid
coversions. The Xvid 2 pass setting in Neodivx will not see the required
info from the rip I made. It will refuse to use the rip. It will always
work a second time on a new rip. Its usually on inferior quality DVD's. I
dont think its related, but then again here I am asking a question :)
Thanks all,
SL
