All,
I recently acquired a Magnatone Custom 280 amp which uses four 6973
tubes in the output stage. Does anyone have some they would be
interested in selling or trading for other tubes? Please let me know.
Thanks.
Mark

What tubes do you have in mind?

I have a few 807's and various sweep tubes......

Hi Mark,

I have a couple RCA 6973s NOS. Drop me a
note if you still need them. They are very scarce
these days.

If not mistaken. I remember this tube be mentioned before, and someone using
a 6CZ5 and swapping pin wiring. Can anyone conform?

Hi Kelly!

Happy New Year a few days late.

The 6CZ5 is the sub, and often it's a drop
in. The 6973 had a screen connection at
both pins 1 & 8, the 6CZ5 does not. It has
pin 1 only.

So if your 6973 socket has the screens
wired to pin 1 you're all set. In fact, I believe
the Magnatone 280 could use 6CZ5 or 6973
with no wiring changes.

The new problem is the 6CZ5 is getting scarce
and pricier. 6CM6 and 6EM5 can be made to
sub fairly simply, and so can 12AB5 (with a heater
voltage change obviously).

So you are correct.

I have a couple 6973 and a few 6CZ5 on hand
if they'll help anyone. Do be aware the 6973s are
pricey though.
