Try it this way. Open Explorer, navigate to the floppy holding the files,
right click the DVCAM.INF file and select Install from the menu.

Just a bit of info on the DMSM files. They are not video files but only
editing instructions on how to create your final video. They contain the
list of files used in your production,(such as the video files, pictures,
audio files) as well as trimming instruction, transition, etc. Your original
files are never modified. The DMSM files are in XML format and you can
actually view them using a text editor such as Notepad or Word.

Re: I can't delete or move video files.. |

You can delete or move it from task manager, if you like or don't find a
fix. (You can use Nero as well if you have it)
Just end explorer process with right click & go to file new task (run) &
look for your file and do whatever. Open explorer again later; it's
somewhere in the Windows folder.

To adjust the hardware acceleration for all system you can do it from
Control Panel ->Display -> Settings -> Advanced ->Troubleshoot.
It would affect the whole system so it is less advisable.

Which version Windows Media player are you using.
In version 9, go to Tools -> Options -> Performance
and see at the bottom section titled: Video Acceleration.
Reduce the Video Accelration to None to eliminate if it is caused by
your
graphics card driver or not. This may hamper the performance though. So
you
may like to restore the video acceleration and finetune other settings:
I cannot try experiments until I get access to the classroom again,

How would this setting affect the other two programs I tried? That is,
I had exactly the same problem with three programs, so it would seem
that whatever is wrong must be something that affects all three
programs -- Windows Media, Real Player, and WinDVD. Does this make
sense?

Hi dear Sony and XP users,
I'm having the same problem as many of you have in getting my Sony digital
DV camcorder recognized by and working together with Windows XP Professional.
In my case it concerns a Sony DCR-TRV16E camera. Of course I tried all the
obvious recommendations like changing cables, trying different IEEE1394 ports
of different cards and what not. Having read the problems reported on this
newsgroup I have the feeling that this is not a specific problem but a more
general one that needs to be resolved by either Sony or Microsoft. What
bothers me is that at both ends no serious solutions are offered in the form
of driver updates or patches. My questions therefore is "Do Sony and
Microsoft care at all and recognize this as a serious problem for their
users?". Is someone aware of a good solution to this problem or does someone
know when or if Sony and Microsoft will solve the problem eventually?
Cheers,
DaVinci |

I recently installed a VIA USB2/ieee1394 combo card. When I originally
installed it, it worked fine recognising the camcorder (Sony DCR TRV22e).
However when I next used it a couple of weeks later it would not recognise
the device. There is no tell-tail ping. Device manager shows both the USB2
controller and the IEEE1394 controller both are working fine. The USB2
side
of the card is fine, recognising the USB output from the camcorder. the
camcorder is aware that the DVin is connected. I have tried 2 different
brand
new cables.
I first noticed the problem after installing SP2. However I have restored
back to prior to the SP2 installation and it still didn't work. I have
uninstalled and reinstalled the IEEE1394 controller, attempted to update
drivers, but they are generic and XP can't find better drivers. There do
not
appear to be any drivers on the Via website. Does anyone know how to get
the
IEEE1394 working? is it something to do with registry? Any help would be
gratefully received.

Thanks, but i have done so on 3 of the computers, i have also tried to
upgrade winDVD and Mediaplayer, i have tried downloading the latest Direct-x,
and 2 of the computers i have re-installed totally.
The problem seems to appear on computers that have downloaded mediaplayer9
and e "codec-patch" from windows update, so today we will try to find out
wich codex-files we have on the computers with error and on the computers
without error - and if that dosen't help - i will re-install all of the
computers with error - we are running out of time and our users are getting
angry :-(

Just incase anyone is reading this , i have it working now. Had to
work the SP1 Firewire drivers in.
Go to C:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386 in the sp1 cab copy out the
following files
1394bus.sys
arp1394.sys
nic1394.sys
ohci1394.sys
replace the new versions of them in the C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache
and C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers
reboot
this should fix it.
