Is there any way to play MPEG-4 (not Divx) files on the Philips DVP642 with
the latest firmware?

I meant to say MPEG-2 files, not MPEG-4.

MPEG2 (MPEGISO) files play on the Philips, what seems to be the
problem?
Is the extension MPG or MPEG?

Thanks for the response. The file shows up on the Philips menu as "MPEG2"
and when I play it, the video is fine but there's no audio. When I play it
on the PC, the audio is OK. Some similar files show up on the Philips menu
as "DVD" and have sound OK. Any suggestions? Thanks again.

There are some audio decoders that the Philips does not have. I
can't recall which, but a visit to the manual *should* suggest
which a/v is supported and using this file inspection tool
(http://avicodec.duby.info/) should fill you in on what audio
encoding is in use.
