VirtualDub and Vegas |

I'm having a bit of trouble going back and forth between
Virtualdub and Vegas. In particular, if I create a .avi
file in Vegas, and then import it into VirtualDub. This
actually never worked in VirtualDub (some error about it
not supporting DirectShow codecs) until the most recent
version of VirtualDub, which does allow the import.
However, after passing it through VirtualDub, there is a
slight but noticeable reduction in quality. Enough so
that I am dissuaded from using VirtualDub in conjunction
with Vegas for my projects. It's frustrating, because I
really like the filters out there for VirtualDub and would
love to use them more.
Any hints as to how to use the two without losing quality?

The reduction in quality is because you are using a lossy codec and not
due to VirtualDub :-)
Its best if you save your avi from Vegas using a lossless codec such as
HuffYUV beore importing it into VirtualDub.

Try using Wax from http://www.debugmode.com/wax/ and the frameserver from
http://www.debugmode.com/frameserver/
Both plug-ins are free and there is user documentaiotn and tutorials on the
site.

Frameserve! No need for intermediate files which may degrade the
quality. The DebugMode app that Mike suggested works fine for
frameserving from Vegas to other apps.
And if you want to frameserve from VirtualDub *to* Vegas, you can use a
combination of VFAPI Converter and ReadAVS. I use this method frequently.
