OK, so DV is digital and digital does not use setup (pedestal). When
going out firewire it makes no difference... only when using analog
putputs... like when viewing/logging/dubbing.

Cameras like the DX-2000 (NTSC version) will produce DV tapes that play
back via the analog output with proper 7.5 IRE setup and should play
fine on other decks (I have a Panasonic DV-2000 and they play with
correct 7.5 IRE setup on this).

Given all this and the fact that DV does not add any kind of "flag" to
the signal to tell the playback deck to "add setup" or not, why do some
DV tapes (source unknown)
play back with no set up on the analog outputs on this same deck?

George
