Thanks all for the great advice. I finally did convince the client to record
the whole event in PAL and then convert to NTSC there in Sydney. The client's
issue was timing. The CEO wanted to hand-carry the tapes back to the USA for a
weekend edit session for a self-imposed Monday deadline. Shoot was
Thursday-Friday in Sydney. Finally I showed the client a side-by-side
comparison of cost and complexity ... shooting in PAL/conversion vs. the NTSC
route and forwarded him yours and others' e-mails saying how little NTSC
equipment there is in Australia. That won them over ... finally!
So thanks again for the help. That's why the Internet and this forum are the
best. How else could a producer in Atlanta line produce a major corporate shoot
in Sydney? It's an amazing world we live and work in.
