I am working on a family documentary and i have about 500 hours of
footage on minidv tapes i need to organize and archive. My ideal
solution is to have software that will help me digitize, thumbnail and
index all of my shots. I'd like to be able to search by customized
meta data and retrieve shots. Does anyone have any software tips for
this? The only thing i've found that looks like exactly what i need
but is just too expensive is this:

http://www.imagineproducts.com/image_mine_p1.htm

i would really appreciate any ideas!

thanks,
brian

Many of us use www.scenalyzer.com (US$ 39)
I use it to generate automatic indexes of all the shots on a
tape, and then use a custom-configured excel spreadsheet
to index the Tape #, Scene #, length, description, and the
searchable keywords.

WOW.. the guys at that site, imagineproducts, sell a $30 firewire card for
$199!!

Yeah.. Scenalyzer woudl probably work but it very limited capabilites for
any kind of notes or other info to save with you clips and at present the
logging is done at high speed so many of your thumbnails will be distorted.
The author says he's working on slow speed logging so better images and more
accurate logs are possible. I used to use RaptoNavi from Canopus but it only
worked with the raptors. That was a great app. Wish it worked with OHCI .
