These modern substitutes for true engineered coax drivers have one
failing: the driver coils are nowhere near time-aligned. True coax
drivers like Urei and Altec had much less offset between the driver
coils of the horn and the cone.
Reproducing the 12" Urei or 15" Altec would be the way to go. However,
that would involve the bane of audio manufacturing everywhere-capital
outlay and build cost.
My advice: hold out for the real thing if you want coax drivers. |
