I have taken amateur wedding footage for a friend on a DV camcorder - we
watched this thru SVIDEO on his 65" Hitachi and the picture looked quite
poor to me - this is probably the interlace to progressive converter on the
Hitachi. Will the footage converted to DVD look better when played on a
progressive scan DVD player on his Hitachi as then the conversion to
progressive is done digitally in the DVD Player ?

TIA

No one willing to give an opinion?

Perhaps too many variables that we don't have experience with.
If you want to judge a specific set of equipment, and particularly
with sub-par material, you'l likely have to do the experiment
yourself. I wouldn't bet on any improvement, but YMMV.

Too true. Chances are the compression to DVD will make it much poorer.
Chances are the Hitachi converts to interlaced (somehow the concept of
"progressive scan" has become as a misleading catchphrase for quality, much
as "Digital" has). Chances are you're looking at a cheap 1 CCD camera on a
65" screen.

I was just hoping someone may have gone thru this.

I am expecting the picture quality off of DVD on the Progressive Scan
Hitachi to be a bit better than from Camcorder S-VIDEO
but I will report back when I have done it.

Thanks

The Hitachi is a progressive scan HDTV which I believe diplays at 480P from

a progressive scan DVD player
but I could be wrong - it may be upconverting it to 1080i - have never liked
1080i.

Am I in the wrong newsgroup ?
