Compositing for live TV graphics? |
|
|
Hi,
Adobe After Effects is the standard software for compositing video.
What I want to do is graphics for live television. Think of what
appears on the lower third of the screen during Fox News or CNN, or the
small 10-second 'breakers' and promos. It's heavily composited stuff.
I need a bit more than the standard filters, though. I need to have
blurs and other visual effects. Not stuff that is designed to be
photorealistic, but rather which is meant to look quick and cool in a
video graphics style.
The discreet Combustion particles look fantastic, but they're not
customizable as far as I can telland the compositing per se seems
inferior to After Effects. I also like a couple of filters from Boris
(eg comet).
What product do I need? I can't buy a $1000US compositor just for the
particles.

After Effects is used for this quite a bit. Not in live situations but for
creating these "lower thirds"

Discreet Combustion's particle systems are completely and totally editable
and customizable. After you have added a prticle system to the timeline.
Open it up on the timeline and select one of the elements. Then, in the
particle tab you will see all of the editable elements become available. It
is awesome.
I have been usein AE since V3 and Combustion sinve V1.1. Combustion is far
better than AE at many things. I would say it is superior in tracking and
keying and compositing especially when teamed with 3DSMAX.
That said, there is probably little that you can not do with AE and a copy
of Photoshop.

| For live, you should be looking at stuff like Chyrons and the like. |
