Send digital & analog audio to same receiver input? |
|
|
I have a Sony rear-projection HDTV (KDF-60XS955) with an optical digital OUT
and an analog stereo RCA cable OUT. The analog OUT produces a two-channel
stereo surround signal for all channels. The digital OUT produces a 5.1
channel digital signal when there is one, which there is with all the
digital channels and with some of the digitized analog channels.
Anyway, I route all my audio to my receiver. The TV set's speakers are OFF.
The way it is set up right now, the RCA cables go into the TV/SAT input
while the optical digital cable is assigned to the CD input. So, I can hear
stereo from any channel but if I want 5.1 from a digital channel, I have to
push the "CD" button on the receiver remote to change to that receiver
channel.
Not big deal, of course, but it would be better if I could assign both
analog and optical digital input to the same "TV" input on the receiver, so
that the receiver would go to digital when it got a digital signal but would
drop down to the analog input when it did not. Then I could just leave the
receiver on the "TV" input and forget about it.
Does anyone know if any audio receivers work this way?

Many Denon receivers have optical inputs that can be assigned to any
device's input. They automatically or manually drop from digital to analog
input if no digital signal is present.

Most Yamaha Dolby models do this also.
