Help with DVD to 700 MB DivX/XviD high quality conversion |
|
|
Hey everyone- I'm trying to archive my dvd collection to 700 mb
CD-R's... I've seen the perfectly ripped movies that range from 690 MB
to 703 MB and are so close in quality to the DVD's I would rather own
those copies and get some of my cash back on eBay by selling the DVD's.
I've had a PC to TV output kit that makes my laptop a fully functional
DVD player with little to no quality loss; so if I could archive all my
DVD's to high quality DivX /XviD copies then I could sell my current
DVD collection and just play everything from the computer.-
I have version 3.6 of YASA's DVD ripping/conversion software, Super
Ripper 2.36, FlaskMPEG 0.594, and Smart Ripper 2.41. With YASA , I go
through the wizard and everything is great but the output is only audio
.. The total file size was only about 160 MB, even though I chose XviD
codec and it was asking me if I wanted video.(The movie is 2 hours
long) This same thing happened with Super DVD Ripper. FlaskMPEG gave me
a near 900 MB poor quality rip.I used SmartRipper to rip all the data,
which seems to have worked right. - Anyway, whatever I've done is
obviously wrong , and all help is appreciated. This is killing me
because my friend has a perfect 701 MB XviD copy of Anchorman, which
was ripped from the new DVD that came out this week.(he got it from a
torrent site, but I use it as an example because whoever ripped it knew
exactly what they were doing b/c I thought it was a DVD when my friend
showed me.) Once again, someone please try to straighten me out. Thank
You.

I find one of the easiest and most powerful ways of doing this is using
the Gordian Knot rip-pack. It is basically a front-end that uses several
applications to perform the whole process.
The good thig is that it gives you full control over evry aspect e.g.
audio/video size/bitrate, 2-pass encoding, cropping, frame size etc which
are all important to give you a good result - I have been using it for
ages now and always get great results.
