Need ouput transformer |
|
|
I have a mono block tube amp, Minnesota Audio Labs MAL 6550 that needs
an output transformer. Replacements have been difficult(impossible) to
find according to the shop that is working on it so I am looking for
someone to rebuild it. Anybody out there do this? Anybody know anybody
in the Portland, Oregon area?
thanks, Tom

Is it part of a pair of monoblocks? |
if not then there is no reason why they cant get a generic replacement for
that amp
there are many companies that will carry a good 6550 output transformer.
www.hammondmfg.com
look up Sowter
there are lots of others out there
is there a reason why this one is difficult to find?

Tom,
Most trnasformer winding companies can wind a new bobbin for you. I would
look in the Thomas Register for a winder near you.
You have the steel. It is a simple matter to remove the laminations and
reassemble them over the new bobbin asembly.
I just finished vacuum imprennating a power transformer for a mechanical hum
problem, Worked wonders. If you find that your teansformer is 'singing with
the music I would suggest this treatment. A good winding house can do this
too.
