true specs of NOS 5AR4/GZ34 |
|
|
Hi all, I'm looking for the spec of the tube of 5AR4's max DC output
current. It ranges from 160mA to 250mA
What would be the correct value?
My requirement would be around 180mA to 200mA between 350V to 430V
Is this safe to use?
TIA

if you get a real Mullard Blackburn GZ34 (will say Made in Great Britain and
have a hole in the bottom centering pin) then it is very safe, as these
tubes were VERY under-rated,
I have seen them handle 600V at 250mA as well as 450V at 350mA with no
problem.
PS - they last about 30 years!
maybe the toughest tube ever made!

You can get the original D/S here:
http://www.mif.pg.gda.pl/homepages/frank/vs.html
The maximum amount of current You can source from a rectifier depends from
the voltage, too. The 5AR4 can give 250mA up to some 450V and 160 mA up to
600V, just so, from the top of my head. Have a look at the rating chart,
it will clear all Your doubts. BTW any good 5AR4 (here included current
production Sovteks and JJs) will comfortably handle Your requirements.
Ciao

Dear Bill ,
Please do not make incorrect generalisations ! Some fat base
double-getter 1950's Blackburn and also metal based Sittard GZ34 DO NOT
have the hole in the base pin . Not all the Blackburn GZ34 say 'Made in
Great Britain' either . Many just have the government designation of
CV1377 printed vertically .
'I have seen them handle 600V at 250mA as well as 450V at 350mA with no

|
Caning rare NOS is just not worth it , highly doubtful even a Mullard
could handle this sort of punishment for long ! GZ33 is a much tougher
valve than the GZ34 . It carries my recommendation for higher
voltage/current useage
