I thought I'd look for a used turntable on Ebay, something for around
$75-$100. I'd really appreciate your advice on what are some
brand/models that you would recommend?

Thank you very much in advance.

I just bought my teenage son a turntable made by Technics. I selected
it because it has a pre-amp built in, and was only about $90. It looks and
works great !! I don't recall the model number, but it is an automatic, and
I think they only have one in that price range. I got it from J&R
Electronics.

Many receivers today don't have a phono pre-amp, so it is nice to have a
switchable pre-amp built in to the turntable.

I would buy one of these before I would chance a used turntable.

Good Luck !!

I strongly suggest you buy a new one. What is mostly being sold in ebay is
trash. One of the most common entry-level turntables is the pro-ject debut,
maybe for 250 euro complete with cartridge, I don't know if it sells in USA
and for how much.

Buy a new Sony, $120 or so. It sounds fine and will last forever.

Depends on it's intended use. If it's just the occasional playback of an
old vinyl album in a home setting then just about any old one will do. Belt
driven vs direct drive and tracking arm styles are certainly factors. The
list is endless.

If you intend to do DJ type work then you're into a whole other range of
products.

One important thing to consider is availability of the needle cartridges.
No sense buying something if you can replace it's needle. Which reminds me
it might be worth laying in a spare or two for fine should I ever actually
play any of those old albums ever again...

Lots of good Technics direct-drive models on eBay - stay away from the 1300
mk2, 1400mk2, 1500 mk2, which have the cueing problems and you'll be OK.
