Connecting LCD TV to Laptop |
|
|
Hi there. I have what would seem to be a simple question, but I can't find
an answer for it. I appologize if this is the incorrect group, but it seems
to be the most informed on this general area.
I have a 32" Panasonic HDTV LCD TV. This unit has the standard RCA,
Component inputs, as well as an HDMI input. I have a Toshiba laptop that is
a few years old, and it has the standard VGA output, as well as an RCA out
for TV out.
Now, the LCD is basically an expanded monitor, and I would like to use it as
such. If we connect the Laptop to the LCD via the TV out, it only displays
resolutions that are way too small, and it enables scrolling, etc and the
picture quality is terrible. I would like to use the TV as a monitor...
but it has no native VGA in. Is there any way that I can get the Laptop
properly connected to the LCD with this configuration of inputs/outputs? I
understand that if the laptop had dvi, I could buy a simple cable to connect
dvi -> hdmi, but what about VGA -> HDMI?
Thanks!

I bought a vga to hd component cable from altex electronics (altex.com for
those not in texas), while for some reason I couldn't get it to work with my
sony direct view crt hd tv from my dell laptop, I understand it's suppose to
work.
Perhaps someone knows the secret.
Good luck |

I believe you have to go to your display/properties to enable the TV
output.

There's no such thing as a VGA to component cable. A converter has to be
used. There are some available for $120, just search the internet. Key
Digital makes a good one. I think it sucks that the TV doesn't have an
analog RGBHV input (VGA). Don't use the laptops TV out, it will not look
good. Once you have the VGA to component converter hooked up, you still need
to select the correct resolution for the LCD TV. I hope your video driver
will allow you to select a 16:9 resolution. I think the Panasonic LCD TV has
a native resolution of 1280 x 768 or close to it, so that would be a good
starting point. Make sure you leave the vertical refresh at 60 Hz. The
Panasonic LCD TV, even though physically clearly capable of displaying a
1280 x 768 resolution via computer hookup, has been designed in a way that
makes it difficult to use with a computer. I would stay away from products
like this one. The industry forces BS on the consumers too many times. One
good example is the DVD/VCR combos. I don't have a clue why the VCR's video
in these combos doesn't come out of the S-Video connector, that just beats
me. Every, I mean every VCR no matter wether it's an S-Video or regular NTSC
VCR, records the signal as Luminance and Chrominance, Y and C separate. So,
why not keep it separate and route it out of the S-Video output? |

Laptop to Lcd Panel resolution problem |
|
|
Hi,
I conected via VGA cable my Hp Compaq nc6000 Laptop to my Polariod 26" LCD Television FLM-2601 I just bought. It works fine with 1024 by 768 pixels screen resolution, but when I change the resolution in my Laptop to 1280 by 768 pixles, Polariod TV displays this message: UNSUPPORTED MODE
RESOLUTION 1024 by 768
VGA CONECTION.
According with the TV properties it is a 1366 by 768 pixels XGA Resolution.
I have tested the Laptop with other monitor with the 1280 by 768 pixels and it works fine.
What can be happening? |
