Purchasing camcorder batteries from eBay |
|
|
Hello all,
I'm looking at purchasing a second battery for my Sony HC-30, particularly
the 4 hour Sony NP-FP70 InfoLithium battery.
Retail stores in Australia sell this battery for between AU $190 and $220,
but sellers on eBay are selling them for around the US $25 - $30.
Is there a reason for such a discrepancy in price? The only reason I could
think of is that the eBay batteries are gray imports.
Here are a couple of links:

Has anybody had any experience purchasing similar batteries from eBay? Would
you recommend against it?
Thanks.

I've purchased several of these "cheap" batteries...replacements for Sony NP-
and NP-Fxx and Panasonic CGR-Dxx camcorder batteries. They fit and work.
Results: Good (for the price...see qualifiers below). Buy from someone that
seems to have a good record on eBay...or Google for "replacement camcorder
battery"...and check out the hits as well as you can.
Details:
The Sony replacements (NP-) work perfectly with a TRV900 and a TRV530 (NP-Fxx).
Tried the (NP-Fxx) on my sister-in-law's TRV33 (several years newer) and the
did not work ("Install Sony InfoLithium"...shutdown).
The Panasonic replacements work perfectly or my PV-DV953.
Qualifiers: None of the no-name replacements have the full, adertised
capacity. The worst, one of the NP- packs, is about 75 percent...but at 1/4 th
the cost, still a fine deal. The Panasonic replacements are pretty close to
the brand-name in performance...maybe 90 percent.
Mechanically, the no-name batteries are identical to the Sony and Panasonic
units...so close that they may have been made in the same factory with the same
mold.
Overall: My experience is that the no-name replacements are worth the
money...recommend them.

Just make sure you get the ones that have InfoLithium on them and you
will have no problems. I have purchase quite a few batteries for
comcorder and digital and have had not one problem as long as you buy
from some seller with a lots, and lots of positive feedback. I know
my comcorder 2 hour battery was shipped from Hong Kong and would not
be suprised that is where Sony namebrand comes from since they look
identical. I would never buy a Sony brand battery since you have
noted the big, big price difference.

They are so cheap... because they are all CHEAP CHINA FAKES... believe me
you get what you pay for....
The sony M series 91D for example should last about 380Min in my MINIDV and
the original batteries do... but the fake 91D for example lasts about as
long as my 30. (60Min).. pretty sad....
I even opened one up, an M series 71D FAKE SONY from ebay (Hong Kong) and
the internals were half empty.. and Guess what... NO Lithium ion battery
inside just a cheap NMh battery... no wonder the short and erratic battery
life...
I have purchased numerous Genuine SONY and numerous Ebay batteries... I can
easily tell the fakes by a mile... E.G. Spelling mistakes on the labels on
the back of the battery are a dead give away. (as if SONY would spell things
like this "Harmful, Harmpul" AND Model - Nodel etc etc...) even the
instructions are full of mistakes as well....
I just gets to me when SOOO many people on ebay are getting ripped off....
Just save for a Genuine Japan Batt....
Regs Mark.
