When retubing? From what I understand, a tube rec either works or it doesn't.
I need to retube my audio power amp and am using Sylvania 5V4's that still
work. Also, I guess it *is* necessary to change out the inverters when
installing freash power tubes, right? TIA.

not necessarily... you need to change a tube when it is bad...

A tube is a tube... all will wear out.... basically the cathode just runs out of
electrons to emit! It's too bad amps don't come with filament boosters, since
boosting the filament power will allow an old tube to regain some life.

But you can keep your old rectifier until you notice a problem...
