Best budget Divx player ? |
|
|
Hi,
I am tempted by a cheap yet good Divx Player for my home.
I hesitate between three models available at pixmania :
Yamada DVX6700 for 42
Toshiba SD245 for 55
H&B DX-3220 for 53
Looking at the technical characteristics it is difficult to choose.
The following aspects are very important for me :
- The best possible compatilibity with all the Divx variants, as well
as the Bivx format (for having two sountracks) and the subtitles.
Divx on DVD discs must also be accepted.
- Compatibility with the OGM video format is a plus but it seems never
to be available anyway (I am not talking about the OGG Audio format
which is not really related).
- Perfect mp3 compatibility and nice File-Explorer without any stupid
limitations such as a maximum number of files (like the 512 files limit
on certain Pioneer units). The longest I can see of the filename the
better, and a support of for the ID-Tag (level 1 at least) is very
welcome.
It's great also if I can see the picture of the disk booklet while
playing.
- Good compatibility with the VCD, SVCD and XVCD.
- Good compatibility with the DVD 8-).
- Good Audio outputs.
- Posibility to view Jpeg pictures on CD-R(W) and DVD+/-R(W).

Here's a reply I got, about a DVD player w/DivX support, might be of
interest to you...
| Quote: | I purchased my Philips DVP 642 from Amazon.com several months ago.
It was $56.95 and included free shipping.
Our local K-Mart has them for $70 some say Wal-Mart also have them (ours dosen't
but they are listed in the Wal-Mart on-line store.
I had been wanting to get another and checked Amazon.com a couple of days ago
and they had a special deal going to end of December.
Sign up for their credit card and they give you a $30 certificate good for
for selected items. The Philips was one of them. Ordered it for $33.94.
Supposed to get here arounf the 4 - 6th of December.
the Following site is handy for evaluating DVD players:
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDnameid=4397&Search=Search&
Just type in Philips DVP 642 (or any DVD player for that matter)
and read the user comments

Considering getting this myself, since the price is right. :)
