Overview
Before we can start cutting the intro,
credits, and commercials
out we need to combine our audio, and video files together, so that
when we do the trimming they will remain in sync. For muliplexing
I use TMPGenc 2.5 plus. This is by far my favorite multiplexer,
and always works good for me. If you don't have TMPGenc you can
use MPEG-VCR's multiplexer.
Section 1 - Multiplexing with
TMPGenc 2.5 plus
- Load TMPGenc up
- File -> MPEG Tools...
- Simple Multiplex
Type: MPEG-2 Program (VBR)
Since we are encoding to DVD we need to use MPEG-2.
Program refers to an MPEG file with video, and audio streams.
Video Input: 19.m2v
This is the name of our encoded video file. It
should have an m2v extension
Audio Input: 19.ac3
This is the name our our encoded audio file. It
should have an ac3 extension
Output: 19-multi.mpg
This is our new file that has both audio, and video
combined.
Click run.
After a few minutes your audio and video should
now be combined in to one file. Play the file, and skip to near
the end of the file, and listen to see if your audio, and video
are in sync. Skip to section 4.
Section 2 - Multiplexing with
MPEG-VCR
- Load up MPEG-VCR
- File -> Tools -> MPEG Systems Multiplexer

should have an m2v extension
Audio Input: D:\audio\19.ac3

should have an ac3 extension
MPEG Format: MPEG-2 Program

Since we are encoding to DVD we need to use MPEG-2.
Program refers to an MPEG file with video, and audio streams.
Output: D:\multied\19-multi.mpg
This is our new file that has both audio, and video
combined.
Click save.
After a few minutes your audio and video should
now be combined in to one file. Play the file, and skip to near
the end of the file, and listen to see if your audio, and video
are in sync.
Section 3 - MPEG-VCR Settings
After you have finished multiplexing your files
you are ready to remove unwanted material such as commercials, and
credits. There are a few different programs on the market that can
do this, but my absolute favorite one is Wombles MPEG-VCR. Other
ones such, as Easy Video Spitter, and ASF Splitter give mixed results,
and are more trouble then they are worth (for me anyways).
First we are going to setup the Jump
Step Size so it's easier to find the exact frame to start
trimming from. I like setting this option to 1
frame, so I can get it as precise as possible. To set this
option do the following.
- Tools -> Options
- keyboard Controls -> Jump Step Size
- set size to frame
- Arrow: Up/Dwn 1
Now load your mpg file, and test out the up/down
arrow keys to move the slider 1 frame left, and right.
Section 4 - Removing Intro and
Credits
To remove the intro move the slider to where the
intro ends, and then use the up/down
arrow keys to get it exactly where you want it. Once you have done
that click on the Mark In button. Notice
how the blue bar disappears to the left of the slider bar. This
means that anything before the start of the blue bar will not be
included. Now move the slider bar to the beginning of the credits,
and use the up/down arrow keys to get
it right where you want it. Now hit the Mark
Out button. Notice how everything to the right of the bar
turns white. This means it's not selected and won't be included
in the file. Now to save the selected section, just hit the save
button, and hit save again, and thats
it. After a few minutes you should have a new file with no intro,
and credits.
Section 5 - Removing Commercials
Removing Commericials is extremely easy to do.
First locate the start of the commercial, and use the up/down
arrow keys for accuracy then click the Mark
In button. Next Locate the end of the commercial, and use
the up/down arrow keys for accuracy
then click the Mark Out button. Now
click on the cut button, and it removes
the select material which is the commercial
After you have finished trimming your movie files
you are ready to create the menu
