CHAPTER 7 - The world of DVD-Video -

[Visual functions of DVD-Video]
3. Multilingual Function for languages galore

Thanks to the adoption of MPEG2 digital image compression technology, it is possible to achieve excellent picture quality comparable to that of a studio master tape.

A maximum of 8 languages for dubbing and a maximum of 32 languages for subtitles can be stored on a single disc and viewers can combine them as they wish. Not just languages, but a maximum of 8 soundtracks can be stored, too.

For example, if you want to practice your English listening skills, you can listen to English without displaying Japanese subtitles, or you can check your listening skills by listening to English while displaying English subtitles. Of course, the same goes for French, Spanish or other languages.
