A write-once DVD disc allows a user to write just once on a disc. Although thestorage capacity is different, the applications are the same as those of CD-R. The write-once DVD disc has have a capacity of 3.95GB on a single side.

To write on a disc, a DVD writer which is a special device for writing on a DVD disc is required. When the content of the DVD-R(write-once) disc is DVD-Video, playback by a DVD player or a DVD personal computer will be possible. Expected applications of write-once discs include pre-mastering during production of software titles.
