The read-only DVD disc is a form only for playback, similar to CD, CD-ROM and Video CD. For playback of read-only DVD discs, the appropriate equipment and environment are required.

When the content of the disc is DVD-Video, a DVD player connected to a TV or a DVD personal computer equipped with a DVD-ROM drive, DVD board and software for playback is required.

When the content of the disc is DVD-ROM, the disc is only for computers. As with CD-ROMs, OS, software and hardware appropriate to the format are required.
