3. 3 application formats can be combined in
a single disc
A software title can offer a combination of all
three application formats: DVD-Video, DVD-Audio and DVD-ROM.
Suppose, for example, that a disc is created
which contains DVD-Video, and DVD-ROM high-resolution still images
and computer graphics are added as an extra attraction.
The DVD-Video portion can be played back by a
DVD player connected to a TV or by a PC equipped with a DVD-ROM
drive and DVD board.
The DVD-ROM portion can be retrieved by a PC
running Windows 95, Windows98 or Macintosh. Since DVD-ROM is computer
data, it cannot be retrieved by a DVD-Video player.
But if the video played back by the program
in the DVD-ROM is a DVD-Video file, this DVD-Video portion can
be played back by a DVD player. This combination is possible because
the DVD-Video is a PC file including video, audio, sub-picture
and commands.
So, a DVD PC equipped with a DVD-ROM drive and
a DVD board can play back both DVD-Video and DVD-ROM.
