Hollywood had its heart set on 135 minutes
of storage, enough for a whole movie to be viewed in one go.
This capacity can accommodate 94% of movies.
Other items on the Hollywood wish list were
superior picture quality comparable to laser discs, superior
sound reproduction with Dolby AC-3 5.1-channel digital surround
for dynamic ambience, and dubbing in at least three languages
and subtitling in four. These requirements are quite natural,
considering that so many movies, whether created in Hollywood
or elsewhere, are aimed at the worldwide market.
